The uses of carmine

Carmine red (Edible Red No. 102) is a water-soluble azo synthetic red pigment. Its core application is to provide bright red to rose red for food, cosmetics, medicines, and industrial products. In China, its limited use in food is permitted, but its use in meat, aquatic products, and infant food is strictly prohibited. I. Food Industry (GB 2760-2024, limit 0.05-0.1g/kg) Beverages: Carbonated/fruit juice/fruit-flavored drinks, milk-containing drinks, prepared wine (simulating strawberry/cherry color). Candies/Chocolates: hard candies, gummy candies, gum candies, chocolate coating (0.1g/kg). Pastry/Baking: Cake piping, pastry color decoration, egg rolls (0.01g/kg). Frozen desserts: ice cream, popsicles, and ice lollies. Preserved fruits/pickles: dried fruits, pickled vegetables, preserved plums. Others: jelly, puffed food, shrimp-flavored chips, flavored fermented milk. Prohibited: Fresh/cooked meat, dried meat, meat jerky, aquatic products, tea, infant food, infant formula milk powder. Ii. Cosmetics and Daily Chemicals Makeup: Lipstick, blush, eye shadow, lip gloss, nail polish (0.1% - 5%). Daily chemicals: soap, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste (in red tones). Iii. Pharmaceuticals and Health Products Medicines: Sugar-coated tablets, capsule shells, ointments, liquid medicines (marked in red/colored). Health supplements: Red oral liquid, tablets, granules for coloring. Iv. Industry and Others Plastic/Rubber: Red plastic products, rubber products coloring. Ink/coatings: Printing ink, water-based coatings, stationery ink. Textile: Printing of some synthetic fibers and fabrics (industrial grade).
